Matt’s Mix Tape, Vol. 151
Hi, I’m Matt Tillotson, and this is Matt’s Mix Tape. My life is a new mix these days. And so is this newsletter.

How to work from anywhere
A month into the new job, and so far I have worked from:
Home
Two airports
Two hotel rooms
The backseat of a car
My parents’ home
My in-laws’ home
And it’s been pretty seamless, honestly. I attribute the ability work anywhere to:
A high noise/chaos threshold due to having two teenage daughters.
(Joking. Maybe.)
“Grounding” activities that help me maintain a sense of routine no matter what.
My grounding actions:
Up at 6AM. Journal and writing time. Clear out Slack. Then a workout (lift or run).
Eating the same foods at lunchtime whenever possible (eggs, Greek yogurt + protein whey, some meat, sometimes some cereal, if you care).
It sounds dumb, because it’s simple. Just two little repeatable routines. But it works, so I can, also. From just about anyplace.
LinkedIn learnings and posts
Learnings
Like any social platform, growth will probably be a long slog. I’ve had three posts go over 1,000 views so far. Stratospheric growth stories are often shared and rarely lived.
My content needs to improve, also. Better headlines, better encouragement to get people to comment, which will improve views. More tangible actions people can take to improve their writing would also help.
Posts
Netflix’s “Stranger Things” proves even routine writing tasks create opportunities to stand out.
Infusing yourself into your writing is not selfish. It’s the opposite.
A brag doc is the best way to ensure your accomplishments are recognized at annual review time.
Worry less about finding your writing niche. Focus on what you can write to help someone today.
Daniel Vallaso put an amazing twist on a bit of “common sense.”
